Securing your Google Privacy settings

Task:Use Google Privacy Checkup

Steps to Follow:

• Sign into your Google Account
• Go to Privacy Checkup: Click "Data & Privacy" and Scroll down to the section "Privacy Checkup" and click on "Get Started".
• Review Your Activity Controls: You'll be guided through the steps for Web & App Activity, Location History and YouTube History
• Manage Your Ad Settings: You'll be prompted to adjust your ad preferences, you can choose to turn them on or off.
• Review Sharing and Data Settings: Look at who has access to your peersonal information across Google services. You can control your profile information and External Apps connected to your Google Account.
• Check Security Recommendations: Google provides you the option to even update your weak passwords or review suspicious account activity.

Task: Turn off location Sharing

Steps to Follow:

• Sign into your Google Account
• Access Data & Privacy Settings: Click "Data & Privacy"
• Find Location History: Scroll down to the "History Settings" section and click on "Location History"
• Turn Off Location History: There will be a switch next to "Location History" click on it to turn it on & off and click the "Pause" when prompted.
• Manage Location Sharing with Other People: You can review your location sharing with other also in Location Sharing. If you are click on "Manage Location Sharing" and turn off sharing with others.

Task:Adjust Ad personalisation

Steps to Follow:

• Sign into your Google Account.
• In the left-hand menu, click “Data & Privacy.”
• Scroll down to the “Ad Settings” section and click on “Ad Personalization".
• Toggle “Ad Personalization” on or off.
• Customize ad preferences by removing specific interests or categories.
• Review and confirm your changes.

Task: Enable Multi-Factor Authentication

Steps to Follow:

• Sign into your Google Account.
• Click on “Security” in the left-hand menu.
• Scroll down to “2-Step Verification” under “Signing in to Google.”
• Click “Get Started.”
• Verify your identity by entering your password.
• Select your second verification method (e.g., Google prompts, SMS, or Authenticator app).
• Follow the prompts to complete the setup.
• Click “Turn On” to enable 2-Step Verification.

Task: Set up security alerts

Steps to Follow:

• Sign into your Google Account.
• Click on “Security” in the left-hand menu.
• Scroll down to the “Security Alerts” section.
• Click “Manage security alerts.”
• Choose your alert preferences (email or phone notifications).
• Click “Save” to confirm your changes.
