Pune – In a significant initiative aimed at fostering young sporting talent across Western India, MIT Art, Design and Technology University is set to host the Khelo India Rising Talent Identification (KIRTI) program from June 22 to 25, 2024. This program, supported by the Government of India, marks a crucial step towards nurturing potential future champions in various sports disciplines. Prof. Dr. Mangesh Karad, Executive President and Vice-Chancellor, expressed pride in hosting such a prestigious event and emphasized the university’s commitment to promoting sports excellence among the youth. He reiterated MIT ADT University’s dedication to fostering a holistic development environment where sports play a pivotal role.
Under the guidance and leadership of Prof. Dr. Suraj Bhoyar, Associate Director of Student Affairs, and in collaboration with officials from the Sports Authority of India (SAI), MIT-ADT University will conduct talent assessments in seven sports categories. These include Badminton (June 22), Boxing (June 22), Athletics (June 23), Football (June 24), Kho-Kho (June 24), Kabaddi (June 25), and Volleyball (June 25). The evaluation process will consist of two phases: first, assessing general physical parameters, followed by sport-specific evaluations tailored to each discipline. Athletes who excel in these assessments will receive detailed Kirti report cards. Identified talents from the Talent Assessment Center (TAC) will have the opportunity to progress to higher levels of training and support programs such as Khelo India Athletes (KIA) and TOPS athletes. Prof. Padmakar Phad, Director of Sports at MIT ADT University, highlighted the program’s role in identifying and nurturing emerging talents, aligning with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ objective of promoting grassroots sports development nationwide.
