7th Vishwanath Sports Meet to Begin on January 24
Pune: MIT Art, Design, and Technology University, Vishwarajbaug, Pune, is set to host its 7th Vishwanath Sports Meet (VSM-2025), the largest state-level intercollegiate and inter-university sports festival. The event will take place from January 24 to January 29, 2025, at the university's sports complex.
The inaugural ceremony, scheduled for January 24, will be graced by Maharashtra’s Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Dattatray Bharane. Other prominent guests include Anjali Bhagwat (Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Arjuna Awardee), Sachin Khilare (Silver Medalist, Paris Paralympic 2024), Executive President of the University Prof. Dr. Mangesh Karad, and Dr. Sunita Karad.
The valedictory and prize distribution ceremony will take place on January 29 at the university’s sports complex. The event will see the presence of Shirur-Haveli MLA Dnyaneshwar Katke and Brigadier Dilip Patwardhan (Retd.) as chief guests.
The meet will feature more than 15 sports, including cricket, football, badminton, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, kabaddi, kho-kho, water polo, swimming, boxing, rowing, shooting, and chess. Players will have the opportunity to compete for prizes worth ₹10 lakhs.
Objective and Inspiration
Inspired by Prof. Dr. Vishwanath Karad and spearheaded by Prof. Dr. Mangesh Karad, the event aims to foster a strong sporting culture among college students in Maharashtra and nurture talent capable of representing the state and nation on global platforms. Over 6,000 players from 135+ educational institutions are set to participate in this year’s competition. Held across MIT ADT University’s sprawling 150-acre sports complex, the meet is themed “Nation Building through Sports”.

Encouraging students and athletes to take part in this event, MIT ADT University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rajesh S., Registrar Dr. Mahesh Chopde, and Sports Department Director Prof. Padmakar Phad have invited players to make the most of this platform and the university’s state-of-the-art facilities.
