Dr. Neelam Gorhe Urges Students to Learn Marathi at MIT-ADT’s 10th Foundation Day

Marathi is an ancient and culturally rich language with a heritage spanning thousands of years, enriched by timeless literature, theatre, and music. Students coming from other states to Maharashtra should make an effort to learn the language, said Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Dr. Neelam Gorhe at the 10th Foundation Day celebrations of MIT Art, Design & Technology University, Vishwarajbaug, Pune.

With a touch of humor, Dr. Gorhe remarked, “Everyone loves Maharashtrian cuisine, and if you speak to a Maharashtrian in Marathi, they will serve you with even greater affection.” Her witty comment, delivered in fluent English, drew thunderous applause from the audience of thousands at the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium.

The ceremony was graced by eminent personalities including Padma Shri Dr. Nagarajan Vedachalam, Scientist at ISRO; Prof. Dr. N.P. Padhy, Director of Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT); Prof. Dr. Mangesh Karad, Executive President & Pro-Chancellor, MIT-ADT; Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rajesh S.; ISKCON Pune Head Radheshyam; Executive Director Prof. Dr. Sunita Karad; Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Ramchandra Pujeri; Dr. Mohit Dubey; and Registrar Dr. Mahesh Chopde.

Congratulating the university on completing a decade, Prof. Padhy highlighted that several micro-satellites currently in space have been built by students from institutions beyond IITs. “India’s students are immensely talented, and with self-belief and dedication, they can succeed in any field,” he said.

During the event, Prof. Pradeep Prabhu, Head of the Building Department, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his significant contribution to the university’s growth. Awards were also presented to Dr. Atul Patil, Dr. Rajshekhar Rathod, Prof. Tushar Chourushi, Dr. Shalini Garg, Sandeep Jadhav, and Yashaswini Pisolkar. MIT-ADT 2.0 Launched

Pro-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mangesh Karad announced the launch of MIT-ADT Vision 2.0 following the NAAC ‘A’ grade accreditation. The plan aims for global recognition, innovation in Artificial Intelligence, expansion in Open and Distance Learning (ODL), and establishment of new campuses in India and abroad.

Inspiring Words from ISRO Scientist

“I was not trained at any IIT — I simply had a deep passion for Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics. Talented scientists are not born only in IITs. If a student has strong fundamentals and creative problem-solving skills, institutions like MIT can also produce exceptional researchers,” said Padma Shri Dr. Nagarajan Vedachalam.
