Pune: Tanu Bhan, a Junior Under Officer (JUO) from the National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit of MIT Art, Design and Technology (MIT-ADT) University, has created history by being adjudged the Best NCC Cadet of the country at the prestigious NCC Republic Day Camp (RDC) held recently in New Delhi. Representing the 36 Maharashtra Battalion, she was awarded the gold medal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in recognition of her exceptional performance.
Along with Bhan, MIT-ADT University cadet Venkatesh Iyer also earned a place in the NCC 36 Maharashtra Battalion and represented the state during the Republic Day parade, bringing laurels to Maharashtra and the university.
Following their selection as the best cadets from Maharashtra, both competed at the national level against more than 20 lakh NCC cadets from 17 directorates across the country. While Bhan secured the top honour by demonstrating outstanding discipline, leadership qualities and perseverance, Iyer’s performance and determination were also found to be commendable.
The gold medal was presented to Bhan during a ceremony held in New Delhi on January 28, marking a moment of pride for the Maharashtra Directorate, the NCC organisation and MIT-ADT University.
The cadets were guided by Brigadier Mangesh Vitekar (Retd.), director of NCC at MIT-ADT University, and Lieutenant Akshata Pardeshi, associate NCC officer. Congratulating the achievers, university chancellor and president Prof Dr Vishwanath Karad, executive president Prof Dr Mangesh Karad, Prof Dr Sunita Karad, vice-chancellor Dr Rajesh S, and registrar Dr Mahesh Chopde lauded their remarkable achievement.
