MIT-ADTU Alumna Commissioned as Indian Navy Pilot

Pune- In a moment of immense pride and inspiration, Tushara Thummalapalli, a 2024 graduate of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT Art, Design and Technology University (MIT-ADTU), has been commissioned as a pilot in the Indian Navy. At just 23, she joins the prestigious ranks of naval aviators, becoming one of the few women in the country to achieve this distinction. Her commissioning marks a significant milestone — not just for herself, but also for MIT-ADTU, which continues to foster nationally committed, socially responsible professionals. University officials praised Thummalapalli for her exceptional academic record, leadership skills, and commitment throughout her academic tenure. Actively involved in technical and departmental initiatives, she stood out as a student of discipline and purpose.

“From day one, she displayed the discipline, grit, and drive of an officer,” said one of her faculty mentors.

Reflecting on her journey, Thummalapalli credited MIT-ADTU’s robust academic foundation, faculty mentorship, and value-based education for her success. “MIT ADT didn’t just train me as an engineer — it shaped me for life’s greater responsibilities,” she shared. The Department of Mechanical Engineering played a vital role in her development, providing both technical depth and strategic perspective. Her achievement has sparked widespread celebration across the university community.
