Shiv Jayanti celebrated with fervour at MIT ADT University, Pune

Pune: The 396th birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was celebrated with great enthusiasm and traditional fervour at MIT Art, Design and Technology University. The campus resonated with the melodious notes of traditional instruments, the thunderous beats of dhol-tasha, bugle calls, and chants of “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ki Jai,” “Jai Bhavani, Jai Shivray,” and “Har Har Mahadev,” creating an electrifying atmosphere. The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of the saffron flag, symbolising Hindavi Swarajya, at the equestrian statue of Shivaji Maharaj at the university’s main entrance. The flag was unfurled by Executive President Prof Dr Mangesh Karad. Among those present were former chairman of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission Dr Kishor Raje Nimbalkar, Executive Director Prof Dr Sunita Karad, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Rajesh S, Provost Dr Sayalee Gankar, Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr Ramchandra Pujeri, Dr Mohit Dubey, Dr Nachiket Thakur, Registrar Dr Mahesh Chopade, along with faculty members, staff and students.

Residents from Lonikalbhor and Kadamwak Wasti, along with hundreds of students, witnessed cultural performances including poems, powadas, and powerful renditions of Shivgarjana dedicated to Shivaji Maharaj. The performances evoked a deep sense of pride and emotion among the audience. Students also presented cultural dances and demonstrations of traditional martial games.

A grand Palakhi procession was taken out on the campus, followed by floral tributes to the equestrian statue using a crane. The programme concluded with the ceremonial aarti of Shivaji Maharaj. Addressing the gathering, Prof Dr Karad said that Shivaji Maharaj remains a timeless source of inspiration and energy. “No matter how great the challenges in life, studying Shivaji Maharaj’s life offers guidance and solutions. His ideals continue to live within us. True Shiv Jayanti lies in imbibing his values and striving to follow his path,” he said.

Blood donation camp receives overwhelming response

As part of the celebrations, the university organised a blood donation camp and a fort-making competition, which received an enthusiastic response from students. More than 170 donors participated in the blood donation drive, making it a major success. The initiatives were held at the entrance of the university’s new IT building. Students were widely appreciated by local residents for marking Shiv Jayanti through meaningful social initiatives such as blood donation.
