Pune: Tejas Patil, an international fencer and student of the School of Computing at MIT Art, Design and Technology University (MIT-ADT), has won a silver medal in the foil event at the Commonwealth Fencing Championships for Under-23 players held in Lagos, Nigeria.

Patil also clinched a bronze medal in the senior foil event at the championship, adding to his growing list of international achievements.

In the Under-23 individual foil event, Patil produced a strong performance to reach the final. He went down 13-15 to England’s Oliver Stone in the summit clash, settling for the silver medal.

Patil continued his impressive run in the senior category, reaching the semifinals. He lost 12-15 to Alex Tofalides of the Republic of Cyprus in the last-four stage and finished with a bronze medal.

Earlier, Patil had secured eighth place in the men’s team foil event at the Asian Senior Fencing Championships. He has also represented India at the Foil Grand Prix in Shanghai, China, and the Asian Championships in New Delhi.

His recent performances have earned him another major opportunity, with Patil selected to compete at the Asian Games scheduled to be held in Nagoya, Japan, in October.
